A delightful Amish Applesauce Cake that combines the warmth of spices with the sweetness of applesauce, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups unsweetened applesauce
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup raisins
- 1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
- In another large bowl, cream the softened butter with the granulated sugar and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the applesauce and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until just combined.
- Fold in the raisins and walnuts, if desired.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 40–45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, consider using freshly grated nutmeg.
- This cake can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
