Description
A delicious and tender pork shoulder braised in apple cider, perfect for a comforting meal.
Ingredients
- 3–4 lbs pork shoulder
- 2 cups apple cider
- 1 onion, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 apples, sliced
- 1 cup chicken broth
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
- In a large Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium-high heat.
- Season the pork shoulder with salt and pepper, then sear on all sides until browned.
- Remove the pork and set aside. In the same pot, add onions and garlic, sautéing until softened.
- Pour in the apple cider and scrape the bottom of the pot to deglaze.
- Add the pork back to the pot along with thyme, apples, and chicken broth.
- Cover and transfer to the oven, braising for 3-4 hours until the pork is tender.
- Remove from the oven and let rest before slicing.
Notes
- For extra flavor, marinate the pork shoulder overnight in apple cider.
- Serve with mashed potatoes or crusty bread to soak up the sauce.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
