Description

A delicious and tender pork shoulder braised in apple cider, perfect for a comforting meal.

Ingredients

  • 3–4 lbs pork shoulder
  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 apples, sliced
  • 1 cup chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. In a large Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium-high heat.
  3. Season the pork shoulder with salt and pepper, then sear on all sides until browned.
  4. Remove the pork and set aside. In the same pot, add onions and garlic, sautéing until softened.
  5. Pour in the apple cider and scrape the bottom of the pot to deglaze.
  6. Add the pork back to the pot along with thyme, apples, and chicken broth.
  7. Cover and transfer to the oven, braising for 3-4 hours until the pork is tender.
  8. Remove from the oven and let rest before slicing.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, marinate the pork shoulder overnight in apple cider.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes or crusty bread to soak up the sauce.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
