Description
A delightful twist on the classic apple pie, featuring caramel-infused apples enveloped in a golden, flaky crust.
Ingredients
- 6 cups sliced apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 package refrigerated pie crusts (or homemade pie crust)
- 1 tablespoon milk (for brushing)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add the sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice. Cook until the apples are soft and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
- Roll out one pie crust and place it in a 9-inch pie pan. Pour the caramelized apple mixture into the crust.
- Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the filling. Seal the edges and cut slits for steam to escape.
- Brush the top crust with milk.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
- Let the pie cool before serving. Enjoy!
Notes
For a flaky crust, ensure your butter is cold when mixing and avoid overworking the dough. Experiment with spices to customize the flavor.
