Description

These Double Chocolate Hocus Pocus Spellbook Brownies are extra chocolatey, fudgy, and perfectly witchy. They are simple to make and delicious for Halloween.

Ingredients

  • 1¼ cups salted butter
  • 1¾ cups bittersweet chocolate
  • ⅔ cup black cocoa powder
  • 7 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1½ cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup bittersweet chocolate (for decoration)
  • 1 teaspoons coconut oil (for decoration)
  • 2 Tablespoons black cocoa powder (for decoration)
  • 16 candy eyes

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350℉/177℃.
  2. Grease a 9-inch x 13-inch pan with baking spray.
  3. In a small saucepan, combine butter, 1¾ cups bittersweet chocolate, and ⅔ cup black cocoa powder. Heat and stir over low heat until melted and smooth. Set aside.
  4. In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine eggs, sugar, and vanilla.
  5. Mix on low speed for 1 minute.
  6. Increase speed to high and beat for 10 minutes.
  7. Add the chocolate mixture to the egg mixture and mix well.
  8. Add flour and mix just until combined.
  9. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  10. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until desired doneness.
  11. For the decoration, combine 1 cup bittersweet chocolate and coconut oil in a small bowl. Microwave in 15-second increments, stirring after each, until melted and smooth.
  12. Stir in 2 Tablespoons black cocoa powder until smooth.
  13. Cut the cooled brownies into 16 rectangles.
  14. Place the chocolate decoration mixture into a piping bag.
  15. Pipe decorations onto the brownies.
  16. Add a candy eye to each brownie, securing with a small dot of chocolate if needed.
  17. Allow the decorations to dry.

Notes

  • Beat the eggs, sugar, and vanilla for the full 10 minutes for best results.
  • Ensure the chocolate mixture is not hot when adding to the egg mixture.
  • Use a cake tester to check for doneness.
  • You can cut the brownies into squares if you need more than 16.
  • Whisk the cocoa powder into the melted chocolate until completely smooth for the decoration.
  • The chocolate decoration may take time to set due to the coconut oil.
  • Use a dot of chocolate to help the candy eyes adhere.
