Description
These Double Chocolate Hocus Pocus Spellbook Brownies are extra chocolatey, fudgy, and perfectly witchy. They are simple to make and delicious for Halloween.
Ingredients
- 1¼ cups salted butter
- 1¾ cups bittersweet chocolate
- ⅔ cup black cocoa powder
- 7 large eggs, room temperature
- 2½ cups granulated sugar
- 1½ teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1½ cups all purpose flour
- 1 cup bittersweet chocolate (for decoration)
- 1 teaspoons coconut oil (for decoration)
- 2 Tablespoons black cocoa powder (for decoration)
- 16 candy eyes
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350℉/177℃.
- Grease a 9-inch x 13-inch pan with baking spray.
- In a small saucepan, combine butter, 1¾ cups bittersweet chocolate, and ⅔ cup black cocoa powder. Heat and stir over low heat until melted and smooth. Set aside.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine eggs, sugar, and vanilla.
- Mix on low speed for 1 minute.
- Increase speed to high and beat for 10 minutes.
- Add the chocolate mixture to the egg mixture and mix well.
- Add flour and mix just until combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until desired doneness.
- For the decoration, combine 1 cup bittersweet chocolate and coconut oil in a small bowl. Microwave in 15-second increments, stirring after each, until melted and smooth.
- Stir in 2 Tablespoons black cocoa powder until smooth.
- Cut the cooled brownies into 16 rectangles.
- Place the chocolate decoration mixture into a piping bag.
- Pipe decorations onto the brownies.
- Add a candy eye to each brownie, securing with a small dot of chocolate if needed.
- Allow the decorations to dry.
Notes
- Beat the eggs, sugar, and vanilla for the full 10 minutes for best results.
- Ensure the chocolate mixture is not hot when adding to the egg mixture.
- Use a cake tester to check for doneness.
- You can cut the brownies into squares if you need more than 16.
- Whisk the cocoa powder into the melted chocolate until completely smooth for the decoration.
- The chocolate decoration may take time to set due to the coconut oil.
- Use a dot of chocolate to help the candy eyes adhere.
