Description

A delicious and easy recipe for Hamburger Steaks, also known as Salisbury-Style Hamburger Patties, served with a savory gravy.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for gravy)
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour (for gravy)
  • 1 cup beef broth (for gravy)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (for gravy)
  • Salt and pepper to taste (for gravy)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well until fully combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook for 5-6 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked through.
  4. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
  5. For the gravy, melt butter in the same skillet over medium heat. Add flour and whisk for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Gradually add beef broth, whisking constantly, and cook for 3-4 minutes until the gravy thickens. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet and spoon the gravy over the top. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through.

Notes

  • Ensure the ground beef is well mixed for better flavor.
  • Adjust seasoning according to personal taste.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes or rice for a complete meal.
