Description
Mozzarella Stuffed Soft Pretzels are delicious, chewy pretzels filled with gooey mozzarella cheese, perfect for snacking or as an appetizer.
Ingredients
- 2 cups warm water (110°F to 115°F)
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 1 large egg (beaten)
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese (cut into small cubes)
- Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Divide the dough into equal pieces and flatten each piece. Place a cube of mozzarella in the center and fold the dough over to seal.
- In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil.
- Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush each pretzel with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
Notes
- For extra flavor, you can add garlic powder or Italian seasoning to the dough.
- Serve with marinara sauce for dipping.
- These pretzels are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for a few days.
