Ingredients

For the Dough:

70 ml warm water

70 ml warm milk

1 teaspoon dry yeast

1 teaspoon sugar

1 egg

2 tablespoons melted butter

320 g all-purpose flour

½ teaspoon salt

For the Garlic Butter:

3 cloves garlic, minced

A handful of parsley, chopped

60 g butter, softened

A pinch of salt

1 teaspoon honey

For the Topping:

Mozzarella cheese, sliced or shredded

1 egg yolk + 1 teaspoon milk (egg wash)

Poppy seeds (optional)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dough

    • Mix warm water, warm milk, dry yeast, and sugar. Let sit 5–10 minutes until frothy.

    • In a bowl, whisk egg, melted butter, and yeast mixture. Gradually add flour and salt.

    • Knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth.

    • Let rise in a lightly oiled bowl for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  • Make Garlic Butter

    • Mix softened butter with garlic, parsley, salt, and honey.

  • Shape the Bread

    • Punch down risen dough. Roll into a 1 cm thick rectangle.

    • Spread garlic butter over the dough. Roll tightly into a log.

    • Slice into 2–3 cm thick pieces.

  • Assemble

    • Place slices on parchment-lined baking sheet.

    • Brush with egg wash, sprinkle with poppy seeds (optional), and top with mozzarella.

  • Bake

    • Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Let rolls rest 15 minutes.

    • Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden and cheese is bubbly.

  • Serve

    • Cool slightly on a wire rack. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Use fresh yeast for best rise.

  • Don’t skip resting time after shaping—helps rolls puff up.

  • Add chili flakes to garlic butter for a spicy kick.
