Description
This slow cooker sweet garlic chicken recipe is an easy, dump-and-go meal. Tender chicken slow cooks in a homemade sweet garlic sauce made with lemon-lime soda, soy sauce, fresh garlic, and brown sugar. Perfect for a simple weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup rice vinegar
- 1/2 cup lemon-lime soda (7-up or Sprite)
- 1/3 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons cold water
- Cooked white rice, green onions, and sesame seeds for serving
Instructions
- Lay the chicken breasts in the bottom of the slow cooker.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the light brown sugar, rice vinegar, lemon-lime soda, soy sauce, minced garlic, and black pepper.
- Pour the sauce mixture over the chicken in the slow cooker.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 6-8 hours.
- Remove the chicken from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Return the shredded chicken to the slow cooker and stir.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and cold water until smooth.
- Pour the cornstarch mixture into the slow cooker. Stir and cook for a few minutes, uncovered, until the sauce thickens.
- Serve the slow cooker sweet garlic chicken over cooked white rice. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.

- For best results, use regular sugar lemon-lime soda. Diet or zero sugar versions can be used.
