Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a heart-shaped cake pan or prepare one round and one square pan.
-
In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
-
Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
-
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Mix in vanilla.
-
Alternate adding flour mixture and milk, mixing until just combined.
-
Pour batter into prepared pan(s) and smooth the top.
-
Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
-
Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a rack to cool completely.
-
Decorate with your choice of frosting, fillings, and toppings.
Notes
-
No heart pan? Use one square and one round cake—cut the round in half and place on two adjacent sides of the square to form a heart.
-
Always let the cake cool completely before frosting to avoid melting.
-
For extra moisture, brush cooled layers with simple syrup.
-
Use an offset spatula and do a crumb coat first for a smooth frosting finish.
-
Personalize with colors, flavors, and decorations to suit your occasion.
